Protect your family and your home

Smoke alarm installation and maintenance is one of the most important aspects of protecting your family and your home from a fire. The majority of fatal fires are caused by electrical faults, heating appliances and open fires. They will often start without notice and will quickly become a danger to your family and home if there are no effective warning systems like Smoke Alarms in place.

Most fatal fires occur at night when people are asleep. Correctly positioned and fully functioning smoke alarms installed by professional smoke alarm companies help limit the damage and cost caused by fires by detecting them early.

Penalties apply

The Queensland Fires and Emergency Services can issue Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) for non-compliance. The penalty of up to five penalty units, or $774 applies.

The Queensland Police Service can also pursue charges.

Buyers can claim 0.15% of the property’s sale price if the seller doesn’t install compliant smoke alarms before the property is exchanged. The buyer must arrange for the installation to be completed immediately after settlement.

Only fully trained and licensed Electricians should install smoke alarms.

All our smoke alarms are installed by local Queensland Electrical Sub Contractors.

They are fully trained to know where smoke alarms can and cannot be installed, they are recognised for arriving on time (on an AM or PM basis), they are polite, competent and efficient.

Get peace of mind knowing that we will issue you a certificate of compliance for your home, on completion of your installation.

Smoke Alarm controller

Optional Smoke Alarm Controller

A Smoke Alarm Controller provides an effortless method of testing, silencing and locating triggered smoke alarms without the need to reach up to the alarms on the ceiling. Fixed to any easy access and convenient wall within your home, for only $49.

Simply discuss with our Electrician a convenient location, within your home, where you would like the controller installed. Our Electrician will then safely install it, at the agreed location, after all smoke alarms have been installed.

From 1 January 2027, Queensland’s regulations
require all homes to be fully compliant:

All smoke alarms must comply with Australian Standards – AS 3786-2014 or AS 3786-2023

All smoke alarms must be photoelectric – not contain an ionisation sensor.

All smoke alarms must be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so they all activate together.

All hard-wired smoke alarms must contain a non-removable 10 year backup battery and all battery powered smoke alarms must contain a 10 year non-removable battery.

Smoke Alarms must be installed in each bedroom.

Smoke Alarms must be installed on each storey.

Smoke Alarms must be installed in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the home. If there is no hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey, and if there are no bedrooms on a storey, at least one Smoke Alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling.

All Smoke Alarms must be less than 10 years old.

All Smoke Alarms must operate when tested.

Hard-wired smoke alarms need to be replaced with hard-wired smoke alarms.  Additional battery-powered smoke alarms are permitted in order to make your home compliant.

Existing landlord’s and tenant’s obligations regarding the installation and testing of Smoke Alarms continue and Property sellers must continue to lodge a Form 24 with the Queensland Land Registry Office stating the requirements of the Smoke Alarm legislation have been met.

All homes must be compliant before 2027.
